As part of the legislation on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), all companies in Mauritius are required to contribute 2% of their after tax profit to support duly approved Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)/ bodies engaged in social welfare, sports, environment protection and various other areas.

As per new guidelines issued, out of the budget provision of the government, 75% of the available fund has to be remitted to the MRA for the National CSR Foundation. Remaining fund can be utilized for funding the various NGOs or projects of social interest.

Every year, CSR funds are donated to a few organizations depending on the profitability of the company.


CSR at IOML

Over the years, IndianOil (Mauritius) Ltd has made contributions towards CSR in important activities.

During the year 2022-23, Indianoil (Mauritius) Limited has contributed an amount of Rs 2,216,925.50 towards 8 NGOs namely SOS Children, CEDEM, Lizier Dans la Main, Pure Mind Heaven, Bhavia, Global Rainbow Foundation, Women of Wonders & SSR Disability Services Centre. The NGOs are putting in  tremendous effort in improving quality of life of people and the society, to highlight, the NGO which IOML have sponsored during the year will be using the contribution as follows;

SOS Children’s Villages Mauritius

A Non-Governmental Organisation working on a national scale to improve and sustain actions for Child Rights. The vision of SOS Children’s Village, is that every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect and security, through its different programmes. SOS Children’s Villages Mauritius is a leading NGO in the childcare sector, caring for children without adequate parental care as well as others who are in situations of vulnerability.

Inspired by the strategy that “No child should grow up alone”, the children we help are the neediest ones, comprising of hose who are neglected, abused and abandoned and those who are living in vulnerable conditions in disadvantaged localities of the country.

With the contribution of IOML, SOS Childrens village will be helping over 1,000 children, young people and many families under their residential and non-residential programme. 

Priority areas 

  • Provision of accommodation and care to children victim of abuse, neglect and abandonment referred by the Child Development Unit.
  • Provision of a continuum of care for children at risk (prevention, early intervention, short/midterm intervention, long-term intervention, aftercare support).
  • Empowerment of young people through life skills and employability skills training.
  • Support and empowerment of vulnerable family who are at risk.
  • Access to education (early childhood, pre-primary, primary, secondary and vocational education

 

Lizie Dan La Main, Union Des Aveugles De L’Ile Maurice

Lizie Dan La Main was set up in 1981 and has, since then, become a reference in the fight for the welfare and care of the visually handicapped in Mauritius. Lizie Dan La Main, Union Des Aveugles de L'ile Maurice is the leading Mauritian NGO to voice out for the visually impaired and blind people in Africa. 

It is known as the learning organization that is committed to excellence in rehabilitating people with visual impairments and those who are blind through the right education and empowerment programmes. The Association is committed to protect and enhance the self-esteem/dignity of the visually impaired and the blind people ensuring that they are given the maximum opportunities to become independent individuals.

Their goal is to rehabilitate these people and help them lead a life as possible. We also provide them with psychological help to face their condition. Through training in mobility, we ensure that they can move on their own and are not dependent on others.

We provide pre-primary, primary and adult education. Teaching is carried out in enlarged print or through Braille. We prepare children for the exams at primary level and ensure their admission in colleges and other secondary institutions. Our center is equipped with the latest technology such as closed circuit print enlargers, Braille transcribers’ computers and voice generated commands (JAWS and Zoomtext) computers. There are further plans for decentralization through the creation of new educational centers in other parts of the island in the very near future.

 

Specialized IT classes

IT classes are provided using specialized classes such as JAWS and Zoomtext to enable the visually impaired children use a Computer with all its functions. 

Activity of daily living plays an important role in the rehabilitation of the visually handicapped children who have not been successful at the primary level aged from 13 till 20 years.  Through this service, we aim to allow the visually handicapped to read and write, communicate properly, perform manual tasks and others. 

Our primary target is for the person to retain or regain his/her autonomy. He/she is trained to move around and deal with everyday chores without the help of another person. Mobility and guidance includes initiation to the use of the white cane, where necessary, activities of daily living, cookery and all other domestic household duties.

 

CEDEM Centre d'Education et de Développement pour les Enfants 

Founded in 1984, CEDEM is one of the leading NGOs in the field of child protection, welfare and rights in Mauritius. We are dedicated to working with and for children. During the past 39 years, CEDEM has implemented several projects set out to improve the lives of both, disabled and normal, children in Mauritius.  Some of these projects are: An Early Childhood Development Centre, a Primary and a Secondary School for Handicapped Children/Slow Learners, a Family Counselling Unit, an Animation Service, a Unit for the Publication of Story Books for Children, a Community Development Programme, Training Programmes for Parents, Educators and Social Workers and Homes for Children in Distress.

Through the years, CEDEM has positively touched the lives of thousands of children and their families and through our dedicated professionals, CEDEM has offered to children hope for a better future 

Objectives of the Organisation include to give every child a better future,to promote the rights, education and welfare of women, children and the family, to sensitize parents and the public in general on children’s issues, To provide training programmes to parents, educators and social workers. etc

Donation to Blind And Visually Impaired Association( BAVIA)

BAVIA , is  a registered  charitable  institution with MACOSS , specialising  for the blind community . They cater for welfare  and development of the blind people with an aim to make them self sufficient and work towards their  self dependency ,  with mobility course , daily  living skills , and recently  initiation course  to the use  of smart phones  , amongst others . The initiation smart phone use  is essential  since nowadays  technologies  is  becoming  an important aspect  of the human being, BAVIA have the intention  of launching  a basic computer course for the blind.

In order to  start the computer and mobile course for the blind, necessary equipment such as such as laptop, computer, printer etc, are required to be procured,

Their Current year calendar of activity include 

  • Week end activity at Pointe Jerome centre in relation to Yoga/meditation  , sitting / physical exercises initiation and nature walk .  Premises of  Ministry of Youth . Coach Mrs Sharda Manna _Gobin .
  • Initiation course to blind to use of smartphones technology.  Duration 6 months . Twice  a week . Premises  in house . Trainer :Robeen .+ music day by Bavia  blind band . 
  • Crash courses on use of white cane ( mobility training ) , courses on household chores ( daily living skills ) . + initiation  to new indoor games + continuation of rattan manufacture products . Trainers : Rajoo , Farida and Kalloo .
  • 2nd tour domino challenge blind tournament.  Preparation of musical band for association anniversary.+ blood collection  by blood bank n Mins of health
  • Association anniversary - Initiation to computer course . Trainer on contract . and International white cane day 15th . Community awareness and road safety campaign with Mauritius Police. 

IOML has decided to fund the Nobel cause so that brings some lights and smile to the people who cannot see the magic of technologies but should be able to understand and feel the benefits it has to offer. In due course, it is expected that through courses they learn at BAVIA, it would help them to look for better professional opportunities and grow in life. 

 

Global Rainbow Foundation 

The Global Rainbow Foundation in association with BMVSS has already offered more than 2500 limbs to amputees in Mauritius, Rodrigues and even the Seychelles. Through this initiative the Foundation has been able to offer independence, mobility, and dignity to amputees who were previously challenged and felt handicapped by their physical disability.

During the previous years of existence of GRF, Jaipur Foot Camps were being organized in Mauritius for the manufacture of prosthesis for amputees, following which a permanent center was created in Petit Raffray. Since occasionally the prosthetic limb required maintenance it was a bit difficult for patient to get a transport to come to the centre for maintenance, IOM donated in past a Jaipur Foot Mobile Maintenance unit which has since been operating throughout the Island. 

In view of the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the manufacture of prosthesis by GRF in Mauritius, they would like to reiterate the collaboration of GRF and IOML by holding out the maintenance and medical camps on 10 of your Fuel station where appropriate. 

By sponsoring the project, IOML and GRF wishes to embark on this venture to giving back dignity, independence and the gift of mobility for a better visibility of the social action undertaken by your company. 

 

Women of Wonders

Women of Wonders’, an NGO working for the emancipation and empowerment of gender equality in Mauritius since 2016.

Several successful projects on women’s entrepreneurship & leadership, charity outreach, Life Skills and Awareness programs had been implemented by Women Of Wonders such as Rise Up For Kids campaign, ARISE campaign-  Recovery from domestic violence trauma, Soup Kitchen project, Environment relation walks/guidance and team activities, etc. Women of Wonders is working on several projects in coming future. 

Recently, the NGO approached IOML for a series of  beach cleaning activities planned to collect beach trash to make the beach a nicer, safer place and also to improve the coastal and ocean ecosystem.

 

Pure Mind Heavens

Pure Minds Heavens is a NGO who looks after kids who are orphaned and do not have any family or relations who can look after them. They provide shelter, food , clothes and enrol them in school so that their studies are not impacted. Currently the shelter is looking after 28 such kids aged between 3 to 18.

During the year 2021-22, Indianoil (Mauritius) Limited has contributed an amount of Rs 1,196,728 towards NGOs- BAVIA, Triolet Kabaddi Association & Indian Ocean Centre 

During the year 2020-21, Indianoil (Mauritius) Limited has used its CSR funds of Rs. 1.1M to contribute towards parties like: YUVA, Falcon Young Farmers, T1 Diams, APSA Diabetes Care Centre, Peace and Well-being, Blood Donors Association, GRF, Jaipur Foot Centre, SOS Village, Triolet Kabaddi Club.

In 2019-20, IOML contributed a CSR fund of Rs, 1M towards the Covid-19 Solidarity Fund. Remaining funds have been utilised to funds NGO like Kabbaddi Association Mauritius and YUVA.

IndianOil (Mauritius) Ltd places great importance to social responsibility and consequently for the year 2017-2018 a total CSR Contribution of Rs 1,895,311 was made to SOS Village, GRF and Ebene Junction Beautification.

In 2016-17, IOML contributed CSR funds to the tune of Rs 645,000 towards few NGOs namely Special Education Needs Society, APSA, Solaris and Le Pont Tamarinier.

For the year 2015-16 also, IndianOil (Mauritius) Ltd had expressed its generosity by donating Rs. 1.6 million to the Global Rainbow Foundation. In doing so, IOML wishes to embark on this venture to giving back the dignity, independence and the gift of mobility. Moreover, other NGOs such as APSA, SOS Children's Village, Lady Sushil Ramgoolam State Secondary School, Kabbaddi Association Mauritius and Pointe Aux Piments Govt School were donated Rs 160,000. A total of Rs 2,656,000 was spent in that financial year.

During the year 2014-15, IOML contributed Rs. 2.67 Million on various CSR activities including Rs 530,000 to SOS Children Village for the welfare and development of deprived children, Rs 500,000 to a social organization APEIM and Rs 500,000 to Club Maurice.

For the year 2013-14, IOML made active and generous CSR contribution to the tune of Rs. 2.4 million that includes Rs 1.2 million to Link to Life and Rs 200, 000 to SOS Village amongst many others. A contribution to the tune of Rs 200, 000 is also noteworthy for the installation of Photovoltaic System at the Gandhian Basic School that underlines the importance IOML attaches to the vision of having a healthy environment for the future.

As at date, IOML has contributed over Mur 10 million towards the CSR with the aim of helping and enhancing the social and environmental arena of Mauritius.
